Navigating A Living Trust For A Foreign Beneficiary - Our Journey
Saturday Jul 08, 2023
Saturday Jul 08, 2023
In episode 99, we share our journey in navigating a living trust for a foreign beneficiary.
Creating a will or a living trust is something people may think about before heading out on an extended vacation. After two years serving as executor for a living trust, Art shares his story and learning moments.
Legal Disclaimer
One disclaimer - We are not lawyers. We are not legal experts. But we have experiences related to this topic and have gained some learning moments you may have yet to hear about elsewhere. If you want to explore wills and living trusts in more detail, find an attorney to work with to navigate the details with legal guidance.
Topics Discussed in this Episode
- Logistics for living trusts with a foreign beneficiary
- Things you can do while alive to facilitate your estate wishes
- Implications of family dynamics
- Language barriers
- Technology differences among cultures
- When financial firms might not work with an executor
...and more
Dealing with Trusts and Wills can get complicated. That’s why we have estate lawyers - to help us navigate the landmines.
If avoidable, we recommend thinking twice before naming a foreign person as a beneficiary. Or, if that's what you want to do, try to set up things in advance to make it easier to transfer your assets after you die.
